PTSD & Trauma-Related Conditions

Psychiatric care for adults and older adults · Maryland & Washington, DC

The effects of a traumatic experience can continue long after the event. Care can begin with what you need now, at a pace that respects your comfort and readiness.

Novexa Behavioral Health serves adults ages 18 and older, including older adults. In-person appointments are available in Beltsville, Maryland, and Washington, DC, with telehealth throughout Maryland and DC.

When trauma affects daily life

Trauma-related symptoms may include distressing memories, nightmares, avoiding reminders, feeling constantly on guard, changes in mood, or difficulty sleeping. These experiences can affect relationships, work, and your sense of safety. Not everyone who experiences trauma develops PTSD.

An evaluation without pressure

We focus on your current symptoms, health history, sleep, and daily functioning. You do not have to share every detail of a traumatic experience at the first appointment. A psychiatric evaluation helps clarify your needs and whether PTSD or another condition may be contributing.

How NBH supports care

Treatment may include medication management for appropriate symptoms, supportive psychotherapy during visits, and practical coping strategies. We explain treatment options and review your response over time. With your permission, we can collaborate with other members of your care team.

Focused trauma therapy

Specialized trauma-focused psychotherapy can be an important part of PTSD treatment. We can discuss working with a therapist who provides this care alongside psychiatric management. Supportive psychiatric visits and focused trauma therapy serve different roles in a coordinated plan.
