When anxiety becomes difficult to manage

Occasional worry is part of life. Anxiety may need attention when it persists, feels difficult to control, or begins to affect sleep, work, relationships, and everyday activities. Some people feel constantly on edge; others start avoiding situations because they are afraid of how they might feel.

Anxiety symptoms

Persistent worry, restlessness, irritability, muscle tension, difficulty concentrating, and disrupted sleep can be signs of anxiety. An evaluation helps clarify what may be contributing to these experiences.

Panic symptoms

A panic attack can involve sudden intense fear, a racing heart, trembling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Repeated unexpected attacks and ongoing fear of another attack may indicate panic disorder. Having a panic attack does not automatically mean you have panic disorder.

How we approach anxiety care

We start by listening: when symptoms began, how they affect your day, what you have already tried, and what you hope will change. We review your mental and physical health history, current medications, sleep, and other factors that may contribute to your symptoms. When appropriate, we coordinate with your primary care provider or therapist with your permission.

Your care may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy during psychiatric visits, and practical strategies for coping with stress. We discuss treatment options, possible benefits and side effects, and follow-up needs so you can take an active role in decisions about your care.

Structured therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help treat anxiety and panic disorder. If you would benefit from focused therapy, we can discuss working with a therapist alongside your psychiatric care.

What to expect at your first appointment

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or know which medication to request. Bring your questions, a current medication list, and any relevant treatment history. Together, we will explore your concerns and develop an individualized plan. Follow-up visits allow us to review your response and make adjustments when needed.
