Recognizing changes in mood
Depression may involve persistent low mood, loss of interest, low energy, disrupted sleep, appetite changes, difficulty concentrating, or feelings of hopelessness. Some people notice irritability or withdrawal more than sadness. Symptoms can affect work, relationships, and daily routines.
An evaluation that looks at the whole picture
Mood changes can have different causes. We explore when symptoms started, how long they last, and whether you have had periods of unusually high energy or reduced need for sleep. We also review medications, physical health, and life stressors. This helps guide an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate plan.
How NBH can help
Care may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy during psychiatric visits, and collaboration with your therapist or primary care provider with your permission. We discuss your goals, treatment preferences, potential side effects, and follow-up needs. If focused psychotherapy would be helpful, we can discuss additional therapy support.
Supporting adults and older adults
Depression is not an inevitable part of aging. Health changes, loss, caregiving, and isolation can affect emotional well-being, and deserve attention. We consider your circumstances and the effects of medications on your overall health.
What to expect
Bring your current medication list, relevant treatment history, and any questions. Follow-up visits help us monitor mood, functioning, safety, and response to treatment. You do not have to wait until symptoms become severe to seek an evaluation.
