Psychiatric Evaluation & Diagnosis

A psychiatric evaluation is the first step toward understanding your symptoms and deciding what care may help. At Novexa Behavioral Health, we explore what you have been experiencing, how it affects your daily life, and what you want from treatment. Together, we review the findings, discuss treatment options, and develop a plan with clear next steps.
We provide psychiatric evaluations for adults ages 18 and older, including older adults, through in-person appointments in Beltsville, Maryland, and Washington, DC, and telehealth across Maryland and DC.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first visit is a conversation about your concerns, symptoms, and goals. We review your mental health and medical history, current medications, previous treatment, sleep, and daily functioning. We also consider the personal circumstances and cultural background that may shape your experience.
We explain our assessment, answer your questions, and discuss appropriate next steps. These may include medication, additional information or testing, coordination with other providers, or a referral. When a diagnosis requires further clarification, we discuss what is needed before drawing conclusions.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

To help us understand your concerns, please complete any requested intake forms before your visit and have the following available:

  • A list of current medications and supplements, including doses.
  • Information about previous mental health treatment and any medication benefits or side effects.
  • Relevant medical records or recent laboratory results, if available.
  • Questions or concerns you would like to discuss.

For telehealth appointments, choose a quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection. You must be physically located in Maryland or Washington, DC during your visit.
